Description:
This CD is a counterfeit version of the promotional "Precious Things" CD. It is a very convincing fake, and has only a few minor differences from the authentic version:
1. The writing around the outside edge ("A Time Warner Company.... By WEA Manufacturing Inc") is black, where it should be silver. This is the most obvious difference, and is used most often to authenticate the CD. However, it can be hard to tell whether it is black or silver in some pictures. On the authentic version, the words "Manufacturing Inc" should be lighter than the red background.
2. The Atlantic logo on the left side of the disc has a background that is whiter than the color of the artwork surrounding the logo on this counterfeit. On the real promo, the background matches the rest of the artwork.
3. Just above the Atlantic logo, the catalog number "PRCD 4742-2" is in italics on this counterfeit. On the real promo, it is in regular text.
4. The text that reads "Tori Amos" in large, silver lettering is a slightly different font on this counterfeit: there are thickness differences in some of the letters, and the position of "mo" in "Amos" falls on a different spot on the image of Tori.
5. Additionally, the font, in general, is slightly different on the counterfeit when compared to the authentic promo. The counterfeit is text lighter, smaller, and somewhat harder to read on the counterfeit.
6. The matrix numbers are also different fonts, although the numbers themselves are identical.
7. On the authentic version, there is a faint curved line in the T and S from "Tori Amos" that follows the curvature of the CD, which is missing in the counterfeit. This may be coming through from the burned area on the other side of the CD.
8. The image of Tori is slightly distorted in the counterfeit in comparison to the original: her head seems to taper off to the right side.
The insert, the image on the CD, and even matrix numbers are identical to the authentic version. If you are considering buying this item, don't be afraid to ask questions and request more detailed pictures to be sure that you are getting the official promotional CD.
