The long box is a former method of packaging CDs that allowed it to be displayed in the deep shelves originally intended for 12" records in stores. The standard CD case was packaged inside a cardboard casing which extended the length. The artwork was often larger to fit the larger surface area. Because they are an obsolete form of packaging and were often thrown away, these are highly desirable for collectors.Although technically a variation, due to their highly collectible nature we have decided to start documenting them on their own separate pages for easier reference.
