Description:
This item is not necessarily a single, however it is of interest to Tori collectors. This reel-to-reel recording appeared for sale on eBay in December of 2003. It contained 6 never-before-heard songs recorded in 1982 under the name Myra Ellen. The songs were copied onto CD and distributed among fans, however this reel-to-reel is the only known original source of these songs. The sound quality of the songs is not the greatest due to the age and condition of the reel.
Recently one of our members discovered some new details about this recording on a video description on YouTube. The song "Someone To Lay Down Beside Me" was uploaded with the high frequencies restored, and the uploader identified himself as helping Tori record these songs on the reel-to-reel tape. He titled the session "The Montgomery College Session" in the accompanying video slideshow. He further detailed:
"I had occasion to record 8 songs with Ellen 'Tori' Amos as my talent for a course called Modern Recording Techniques, being taught by Bill Potts. Ellen (as she was known back then) graciously agreed to help me out. This is one song from that session. There are several versions of this recording floating around where the high frequencies have vanished. I have restored them. We all have seen the photos of young Tori from this early period. So, now you get to see the guys who did the recording. Bill Potts, one of my mentors from Montgomery College, was best known for his work with some of the greatest jazz players of all time."
Thank you JimD for the amazing find!
